Dasya.com Web Rental FAQ

What is the difference between a Virtual and a Non-Virtual Account?

A virtual account allows your URL to be http://www.yourcompany.com. This has many advantages--to give your site the appearance of having its own server and thus a larger presence on the Web, to make it easier for people to remember your Web location, to allow your URL to fit on a business card, or to attach your company name to its Web name.

More technically, in creating a virtual account, one is registering with Network Solutions or some other domain name agency. This registration reserves this URL forever (as long as you pay your registration bill, of course). Please refer to Network Solutions's Web site or one of the other US or international registration agencies for current policies and procedures.

A non-virtual account is having webspace on a server without your own domain name. Your URL would then be something like http://dasya.com/yourname. This includes all of the same features as a virtual account but without the feeling of having one's own name on the Internet. A non-virtual account has two advantages: it's cheaper and you don't have to wait for Internic registration.

Do you offer dial-up Internet access?

No. You will need to gain access to the Internet itself by either a local dial-up access provider or other Internet-connected entity.

Do you offer web page design services?

No. However, we may be able to help you with certain problems or provide scripts or HTML templates for your use.

How to I get the pages I've created to your server?

You can access your account through FTP, telnet, or the Web at http://www.dasya.com/webrent/. You have unlimited access to your site via these methods.

What can I use my web site for?

You may use your site for whatever you wish as long as it is in compliance our service agreement. Also see Earthlink's Acceptable Use Policy.

What is the service agreement term and what are the payment options?

We bill monthly via email and accept personal or business checks, money orders, and Paypal in US dollars only. You may cancel your account at any time, but no money will be refunded. Please refer to our service agreement for more information.

How long does it take to set up a new account?

We are generally able to set up a new account within 24-48 hours, Monday through Friday. The only time that this is usually exceeded is if there are special circumstances, such as an invalid or reserved user name, but even that can usually be resolved quickly.

Is the WWW part of my domain name?

It is very important to realize that the portion yourcompany.com is the Domain Name. Not www.yourcompany.com. The www. is commonly called a machine name; it just happens to be the most common machine name prefix on the Web. We set up your account so that yourcompany.com and www.yourcompany.com are equivalent.

How do I register for a domain name?

Use any of the domain registrars, such as Go Daddy and Network Solutions, to register your new domain name. You will be billed separately by them for this service. You will need to provide DNS server information which is as follows:

Primary Server Hostname: NS1.NAMESERVE.NET
Primary Server Netaddress: 64.226.28.41
Secondary Server Hostname: NS2.NAMESERVE.NET
Secondary Server Netaddress: 69.0.145.41
